Question of the Week 2/19/09 - Canada Geese

 

 

Question: Geese on a pond in New Hampshire

 

 

Answer:  We have three or four different products that can be used for geese. First would be Migrate Turf Spray. This is a liquid that you would spray on your lawn… when the geese go to graze they will realize the grass is no longer a food source, and move on to a better spot. Next we have a sound deterrent, the Goose Chase Sonic. This is a weatherproof outdoor sound deterrent that can cover between 1-5 acres. It plays goose distress calls… when geese hear these their natural instinct is to leave the area.  We also carry a product called the scarecrow, a motion activated sprinkler. Some people set these up right at the shore or near a dock. When the unit detects motion it will spray out a stream of water… geese do not like this, and will avoid the area. Question of the Week: February 12th / Crows

Question: Will your product (Bird Repellent) keep crows from tearing up my yard?

 

Answer: The Bird Repellent is a thick sticky gel; you will want to avoid using it in a lawn. Crows usually tear up the law to get to grubs underneath. There are a few products that we carry that can help with this. We have a product called the scarecrow, which is a motion activated sprinkler. You would set the unit in the lawn, every time motion is sensed it sprays a stream of water 25’x35’. We also have an outdoor sound deterrent called the Bird Chase Super Sonic. The sonic is weatherproof deterrent that can be programmed for crows. Having the grass tested and treated for grubs may also help.

Question of the Week: Wednesday February 3rd

Question: I want to rid my backyard of a woodpecker that is severely damaging my wooden shed, what do you recommend?

Answer: Woodpeckers peck for three reasons, to find food, to store food, and to attract mates or establish territory. The humane society has a really good article on deterring woodpeckers that can be found here: http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/urban_wildlife_our_wild_neighbors/solving_problems/species/solving_problems_with_woodpeckers.html. They recommend using visual deterrents like our mylar flash tape, scare eye diverters, or balloon deterrent. You hang these items in front of the area the woodpeckers are pecking; birds do not like the reflective surfaces and will avoid the area. We also carry an outdoor sound deterrent which can be programmed for woodpeckers. The unit is weatherproof and can cover between 1-5 acres of land. Some customers also choose to temporarily net off areas to block the woodpeckers from the surface.  Please let us know if you have any other questions!
